Product Description

EDTA tube with purple cap serve as professional blood collection tubes for hematology testing. Each tube contains a preset concentration of tripotassium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA-K3) anticoagulant lining. EDTA-K3 quickly binds calcium ions in blood, stopping the clotting process. Compared with other anticoagulants, EDTA-K3 preserves red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in their natural shape, making it the preferred choice for routine blood cell analysis and peripheral blood smear preparation.

What Are EDTA-K3 Blood Collection Tubes?

  • Chemical Composition
EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) acts as a chelating agent that readily binds divalent metal ions. In its tripotassium (K₃) form, EDTA dissolves more easily in blood, offering consistent anticoagulation.

  • Mode of Action
Once blood enters the tube, EDTA-K3 immediately binds calcium ions (Ca²⁺). Removing calcium prevents thrombin formation, halting platelet activation and fibrin network formation. The result: reliable, lasting anticoagulation.

  • Difference from EDTA-K2
Both EDTA-K2 and EDTA-K3 chelate calcium, but EDTA-K3 generally comes as a powder or liquid coating inside the tube. It dissolves quickly after collection and mixes evenly, while EDTA-K2 often appears as a dry powder that can cling to the tube wall if mixing is uneven. Proper EDTA-K3 concentration prevents cell distortion during storage.

Features and Advantages

  • Fast Anticoagulation
EDTA-K3 stops clotting immediately upon blood entry, maintaining stable cell counts and shapes before analysis.

  • Preserves Cell Morphology
Within 4–6 hours at room temperature, EDTA-K3 causes minimal changes in red and white blood cell appearance, supporting accurate blood counts and smear reviews.

  • Wide Application
Use it for complete blood counts, blood viscosity tests, white blood cell differentials, reticulocyte counts, and other hematology assays.

  • Convenient Packaging
Tubes use pressure-resistant glass or medical-grade polystyrene (PS). They feature clear color coding, precise graduation marks, and leak-resistant stoppers, making them ideal for both clinical labs and on-site collection.

  • Traceable Quality
Each tube bears a unique lot number and production date. We follow ISO 13485 quality standards to ensure consistent anticoagulant dosage and uniform distribution that meet international laboratory requirements.

EDTA tube is a type of blood collection tube that contains ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as an anticoagulant. EDTA works by binding to calcium ions in the blood, which prevents clotting and helps preserve the sample for laboratory analysis.

Store EDTA tubes at room temperature (4-25°C) and avoid exposure to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight to maintain their effectiveness. It is important to check the expiration date on the tubes and avoid using expired products
